AI for Researchers: A Workshop Series 

This workshop series is designed to empower researchers by integrating AI tools into their research workflows and applications. Each session will provide hands-on experience and valuable insights, from ethical considerations to practical application development. 

Session 1: Responsible & Ethical AI in Research ⚖️ 

September 25 at 11 a.m. 

Navigate the complex landscape of AI ethics with this introductory session. We'll discuss the principles of responsible AI, covering critical topics like bias, data privacy, and intellectual property to ensure your AI-powered research is both innovative and sound. 

Session 2: Mastering Custom Prompts & Tools 🛠️ 

October 9 at 11 a.m. 

Go beyond basic queries and learn to create powerful "AI-human contracts" to guide AI systems for specific research outcomes. This session will focus on developing custom prompts and tools that generate high-quality, research-capable outputs. 

Session 3: Hands-On Generative AI for Data Analysis 👩‍💻 

October 23 at 11 a.m. 

In this workshop, you'll gain hands-on experience using generative AI to write code and create data visualizations. We will also discuss prompting frameworks and potential pitfalls when using generative AI for data analysis. Please bring a laptop. You’ll use your choice of commercial generative AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to work though sample exercises. 

Session 4: AI in Research Implementations 🔬 

November 7 at 1 p.m. 

Discover how to apply AI in your own academic work by exploring both existing and custom tools. This session will feature current available AI resources and MSU research projects that successfully use AI, providing real-world examples and inspiration for your own implementations.
